Property continues to be a ‘solid long-term investment’, as new research reveals that property investors over the last 50 years have remained ‘in profit 83% of the time’ on average.
According to a study carried out by Property investment platform British Pearl, between April 1968 and April 2018, the average house price rise was 58.6% for properties held for five years.
During this time, property prices only fell on five different occasions, which has meant a high level of success for most investors.
The results of this study shed a positive light on buy-to-let investment, especially when approached as a long-term investment.
Mortgage borrowing rates are low, while tenant demand remains solid for property investors. Despite higher stamp duty costs for buy-to-let properties, property remains a sound investment offering good returns.
Investment Manager at British Pearl, James Newbery, said: “This research shows investors who play their cards right and hold their nerve in the midst of economic or political upheaval are still likely to come out on top.”
“History shows us that investors who are prepared to weather storms rather than run for cover are still able to make strong returns at times from investments that present a very limited risk of loss…The message, not just for investors but homeowners, too, is to play the long game”, Newbery added.
