When viewing a house to rent it is important to ask the right questions as you could be living in it for some time – Our blog lists 15 to...
Christmas can be as stressful as it is enjoyable, so it is not the best time to consider moving house. However, if your house purchase has just completed or you need to move out of your rented flat, then you may be left with no choice.
If you are moving house this month, don’t panic because with a bit of careful planning, it is possible to do it with the minimum amount of stress.
Plan ahead and book in advance…
If you are moving into a house you have just bought, then confirm a moving-in date as soon as possible. Anyone moving into a new, rented flat, should also push to agree a date for moving in as early as you can.
If you will be renting in London and have to move out soon but have not found your new home yet, then start viewing flats as a matter of priority. Contact local London estate agents now and tell them your desired moving date, so they can show you all the flats they have available for that date.
Once you have decided on a moving day, book your removals service and start looking forward to Christmas in your new home.
Start packing and change your address now…
Don’t put off your packing until the last minute – start doing a little bit every day now, so you will still have time to attend all those festive parties later on in the month.
Call all your utility firms as soon as possible to inform them of your moving date and new address. This will avoid having to do it later and will also make sure you don’t find yourself without power on Christmas Day!
Pass on your new address to all of your friends and family, so your cards and gifts get sent to your new home. You can also take advantage of Royal Mail’s redelivery service to ensure that any mail sent your old address is forwarded on.
Be prepared for bad weather…
Finally, in December you must be prepared for the weather to be pretty cold and awful. Make sure all your furniture and items are well protected so they won’t get damaged by wind, rain and snow during the move.
And if you feel disheartened at the prospect of lugging heavy items around in wet weather, just tell yourself that it would have been even more unbearable on a blisteringly hot day!
