Living in Covent Garden: An Area Guide
Living in Covent Garden: Is London's Most Visited District Actually a Great Place to Live? Forty-four thousand people pass through Coven...
London’s property market has been responsible for countless column inches just this year alone. The volatile coupling of a white-hot marketplace and renewed access to finance among property seekers has sent prices skyward. The result is that some individuals claim the best time to have invested in London property was a year or so ago. If this is indeed true, that makes the second best time to invest in London property right now. Here are some of the best areas in which to do just that.
Camden
The North London hipster hangout isn’t just a firm favourite among those sporting skinny jeans and beards – it’s also a haven for investors. The world famous market and illustrious gig venues single Camden out as one of London’s most famous and easily-recognisable boroughs. As such, it’s long been viewed as a relatively safe bet where property is concerned.
Looking ahead, this growth is expected to continue for the foreseeable future at least, with numerous analysts having put Camden within their top five London property hotspots.
Peckham
The London Borough of Peckham has gone through its fair share of infamy over the years. Murders and street crime blighted the area, which surely helped it become the permanent residence of lovable crook Del Boy in the iconic sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses’.
Today all this is a thing of the past, with Peckham even giving Shoreditch a run for its money in attracting creative, arty types. In fact, the once-notorious Peckham Rye car park could soon be transformed into a thriving arts centre at a cost of £10 million. Couple this with strong links into the City and it’s easy to see why Peckham is being transformed almost beyond recognition.
Mayfair
Mayfair has the enviable status of being associated with wealth and success, thanks to its inclusion as the most expensive square on the Monopoly board. Now, regardless of what may have gone on in the past decades, Old Kent Road is thought of as cheap whereas Mayfair is synonymous with luxury.
Thankfully, what has gone on in the past decades has been sustained buoyancy in the Mayfair market which has established it as one of the world’s most famous addresses. A status like that cannot be bought but, thankfully, property can – enabling investors to reach this market and its global reputation.
Westminster
Despite its worldwide renown as the home of British politics, Westminster actually has a number of more affordable properties within its borders. Of course, these homes can sometimes sit side-by-side with multi-million pound homes (in certain cases, quite literally), but that just offers investors with a wealth of choice.
The result is a whole spectrum of opportunity to match most budgets. Whether going in for a relatively inexpensive buy or something more luxurious, the end result is widely expected to be the same – a return on investment. Nearly all analysts and agents have said that Westminster is currently London’s shining property star, whatever the property is in question – large or small.
So whether an investor’s budget is conservative or almost limitless, there’s plenty of choice in London – and plenty to get excited about too.
